Elcogen signs MoU with Hygreen Energy to integrate solid oxide stack technology into its electrolyser portfolio for global markets

We are pleased to share that Elcogen has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hygreen Energy Co., Ltd (Hygreen), a Beijing-based technology group specialising in electrolysis and clean power generation solutions, to explore opportunities to bring advanced solid oxide stack technology to new applications and markets globally.

Today, Hygreen supplies alkaline, proton exchange membrane (PEM) and anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyser systems to customers globally, and aims to expand its portfolio to include solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) and solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems. By combining Hygreen’s experience in system integration with Elcogen’s solid oxide stack technology and engineering expertise, we will explore opportunities to broaden Hygreen’s technology offering and integrate solid oxide stack technology into new system solutions.

As part of our planned cooperation, we intend to accelerate the development and testing of both SOFC and SOEC-based systems, progressing from laboratory-scale technology towards larger MW-scale demonstration systems over the next two years. This work will help establish a pathway for rapidly evaluating system performance, demonstrating the technology at increasing scales and assessing its potential for commercial application.

Alongside technical development, together, Elcogen and Hygreen will assess deeper commercial arrangements, including localised manufacturing and product supply, and further technical cooperation, laying the groundwork for a possible long-term partnership.

“This agreement represents an important opportunity to explore how our solid oxide technology can contribute to the development of next-generation electrolysis and fuel cell systems. By working with Hygreen, we look forward to combining our respective strengths and evaluating opportunities to bring solid oxide solutions to both the Chinese and wider international markets,” said Enn Õunpuu, CEO and Founder of Elcogen.

“Solid oxide stack technology is a strong complement to our portfolio, and this MoU marks an important step in broadening our technology offering. By combining Elcogen’s solid oxide expertise with our system integration and global market experience, we see real potential to accelerate the development of SOEC and SOFC systems and bring these solutions to commercial scale in China and beyond,” said Alan Tan, Chief Commercial Officer of Hygreen Energy.
